Austria plans to buy a second batch of AW169 helicopters from Italy for 300 million euros

Negotiations between the defense departments of Austria and Italy on the purchase of a second batch of AW169 military helicopters manufactured by the Italian concern Leonardo are at the final stage, the deal may amount to 300 million euros. This is reported by the newspaper Kronen Zeitung.

According to sources of the publication, Austria plans to order 18 more helicopters of this type in Italy. An agreement to supply the same number of AW169s was signed in 2021. The exact amount of the contract was not disclosed, according to the media, it ranged between 300 million euros and 400 million euros. The first helicopters are to be delivered to the Austrian side in 2023.

According to the newspaper, most of the AW169 is designed to perform operational tasks. The remaining helicopters are used for pilot training.
